2005 Wall Street Project South Conference

The 2005 Wall Street Project South Conference, sponsored by 
The Rainbow Push Coalition and The Citizenship Education 
Fund, was held on November 3-5, 2005 in Atlanta, GA. The 
theme of the conference was "Leveling the Playing Field in 
Civic and Economic Life".  
 
The Lighthouse Gospelettes were honored to perform during 
the "Keep Hope Alive Awards Breakfast" on Friday, Nov. 4, 
2005 at 8:00 a.m. at the 755 Club, Turner Field.  
 
The program began with invocation and a welcome from 
President Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.  
 
The Honoree during the Awards Breakfast was Isom Lowman, of 
The Lowman Group. Mr. Loman's entrepreneurial gifts began 
when he was six years old. He sold photographs of a 
reunion to family members. Later he purchased his first 
franchise, five years after graduating from high school.  
He graduated Cum Laude from Morehouse College with a degree 
in pre-medicine and business. Today, The Lowman Group has 
gown to over 13 stores and in the largest domestic 
franchise in The Athlete's Foot system. Remarks were given 
by Steve Erwing, and Weldon Latham. Steven R. Ewing is 
president of Wade Ford, a dealership that offers new, 
pre-owned, and fleet vehicles from three properties located 
on South Cobb Drive in Smyrna, GA. He is a graduate of 
Delaware State University. Weldon Latham is a Senior 
Partner with the law firm of Davis Wright Tremain LLP, 
where he chairs the Corporate Diversity Counseling Group.  
His national legal practice focuses on workforce and 
supllier diversity. He has resolved several highly 
publicized class action lawsuits alleging race and gender 
discrimination. 
 
Later Friday evening, The Keep Hope Alive Gala, honoring 
The Honorable Judge Glenda Hatchett was held at the Hyatt 
Regency Hotel in Atlanta, GA where hosts were Frank Ski and 
Earthquake. Judge Glenda Hatchett became Georgia's first 
African-American chief presiding judge of a state court and 
the department head of one of the largest juvenile court 
systems in the County. She soon gained national attention 
for her creative sentencing which can be seen today on her 
television program, Judge Hatchett. The welcome was given 
by Janice L. Mathis, Esq., Director-Atlanta Bureau. Remarks 
were given by President, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. Boney 
James provided Jazz music for entertainment. 
 
 
In the words of President, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, "We must 
dream beyond our circumstances. Be of courage. Be strong. 
Be politically astute. Be economically frugal. Stand up 
with faith. Fight the right fight. Never surrender. Put 
faith in God. Beyond faith-based we must Love-based. It's 
difficult. Our challenges are awesome. And yet we still 
rise. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in 
the morning."
