The Lighthouse Gospelettes>
2004 Pioneer Awards

January 1, 2004

On January 1, 2004 the Lighthouse Gospelettes were among a 
few other local Groups in Athens, GA to receive the 2004 
Emancipation of Proclamation Pioneer Award. The 2004 
Emancipation of Proclamation Observance and Northeast 
Georgia Pioneer Awards Program was co-sponsored by Baptist 
Church, Watkinsville, GA., Lincoln Masonic 
Lodge No. 62, the Athens Alumni National Pan-Hellenic 
Council, Inc,. the Athens Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi 
Fraternity, Inc., and In Touch Management Group. The Award 
is given for meritorius community work or deeds that 
promote family values in today's society.  
 
The original Lighthouse Gospelettes were formed back in the 
1950's. The group has continued to minister through songs 
as it has changed various group members throughout the 
years. The current group has been singing together for 
about 20 years or so. One original member, Alma (Roach) 
Stroud, is still singing with The current Lighthouse 
Gospelettes despite health problems that have recently 
tried to slow her down. Nevertheless, with prayer and 
faith, she has managed to weather many storms and is still 
standing strong as the 1st soprano in the group. This 
group is a family group. They love to sing, touch hearts, 
and inspire others to come to love Christ and to know and 
understand Christs love for mankind and the sacrifice he 
made for us all in order they we may have life and have it 
more abundantly.
