2004 Community Recognition Awards Banquet

The Athens Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. announces its 2004 Community Recognition Awards Banquet. The banquet will be at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 12th at The Classic Center located at 300 North Thomas Street, Athens, Georgia. Former 1980 National Football Champion for the University of Georgia and three-time San Francisco 49’ers Super Bowl Champion Guy McIntyre will be the keynote speaker. Tickets are $35 each.
The purpose of the banquet is to recognize achievement at the local, state, and national levels in all fields of human endeavors. The honorees selected have exemplified achievement in their respective fields and have earned the recognition that will be bestowed upon them.
Lifetime achievement award honorees include Dr. Maurice Daniels, University of Georgia Athletic Director Vince Dooley, Georgia Supreme Court Justice Leah Sears, and native Athenian heart surgeon Dr. Michael Smith. Community service award honorees include Dr. Deryl F. Bailey, George Bullock and Melvin Hayes. The East Athens Development Corporation will receive the civic organization award. Distinguished service award honorees include LaGrange Dupree and Betty Brown Williamson. Special achievement award honors will go to Candace Turner and Dunta Robinson. Turner is a graduate of Cedar Shoals High and Columbus State University. She was the NCAA 2004 Woman Athlete of the Year. Robinson is a Clarke Central High and a South Carolina Gamecock 2004 first-round NFL draft pick of the Houston Texans. Music will be provided by the Lighthouse Gospelettes.
